For many years LSCF has been a place that values global mission. Initiatives in the past have seen teams serve in the inner city of Winnipeg, Montreal, Action programs around the world, camp ministries throughout Manitoba and the Ens family in Brazil/Thailand.
Stemming from a heart of obedience to God’s call (Matt 28:18-20; John 20:21, 1 Peter 2:9-10; Acts 1:7-8), members of our church family (missions committee) have been praying for years about a sending a multigenerational mission team to an international location.
At the same time, our student ministry has been praying intentionally about a “next step” mission experience. Steve and his team have identified the need to send a small group of grade 11-12 students to an international location to evangelize, learn from fellow believers and have their perspective of the global church enlarged.
Since these two complementing visions are coming together at the same time, we sense that it is time for LSCF to consider forming, supporting and sending a multigenerational team to Thailand during July 2018.
Although many details need to be confirmed with the host missionaries, the hope is that this experience would be a multi-week trip which would continue relationships with our ministry partnership in Thailand. Ideally our team would be a multi-generational team made up of 8 people. Our hope is that 4 of these would be grade 11-12 students. Each member of the team would be approved through an application process.
Thailand is primarily Buddhist, with only 1% of it’s population knowing Jesus. We would like the opportunity to partner with existing organizations to share our faith with those who don’t know Jesus.
The HOPE center in Thailand is requesting help in running children programs, music ministry and youth events. Our team would be equipped to assist in these ways.
This would give our team opportunity to learn from followers of Jesus who live in Thailand. It would also broaden the team’s understanding of the global body of Christ.
This would create a stepping-stone towards longer mission experiences for participants in the future.
A multi-generational initiative would help foster a sense of common mission amongst all demographics in LSCF.
Our hope is that God would inspire us by the example of Thai Christians, so that we would come back to Canada, empowered to serve LSCF with renewed passion.
Our church is located on Highway 247 in La Salle, (map) between the Community Centre and Kingswood Golf Course.
